Thermo-chemical energy projects

Nykomb Synergetics started in 1986 as a daughter company to AB Nynäs Petroleum, a Swedish oil company, with the objective of developing and implementing a large scale IGCC plant located adjacent to the Nynäshamn refinery in Sweden.

From 1990 Nykomb widened its areas of activities to serve as an independent contractor in process and power system engineering and project development services. We established ourselves in the field of thermo-chemical energy conversion of fossil, renewable, and waste fuels into power, heat and high-grade chemicals including automotive fuels. Specifically, we developed expertise in state-of-the-art gasification technology as a mean to produce high-value products while reaching typically higher energy efficiency and lower emissions than conventional technology.

Since the mid 1990’s, Nykomb also engages in technology and project development projects. Examples are the investment in and development of Chemrec and our projects in Latvia and Senegal.

Our mission is to contribute to a more sustainable energy society by supporting our customers in achieving profitable projects and by initiating and taking active ownership in start-up companies and development projects.

 

A few of our beliefs are:

  • Gasification is a key technology to enable next generation fuels and chemicals produced in industrial quantities.

  • Life-cycle analyses of energy solutions win out in the end, especially for bio-fuels.

  • It is possible to structure win-win energy projects in the developing world, which are both clean and profitable for both the host country and the developer.

  • Valuable analysis should be dogma-free analysis and deal with the cleanest possible realistic solution;

    • Green energy and chemicals are feasible and in many cases financially attractive today but there are still needs and applications for fossil and traditional solutions.

    • Coal and Hydrocarbons can be the cleanest realistic solution available.

    • There are numerous green energy solutions that can coexist in the marketplace.

  • There are more often than not green paths for evolving fossil energy to greener solutions.

  • The most useful consultancy comes from experience honed close to the implementation end whether in plant construction or in financing.

  • Active ownership and close cooperation with entrepreneurs is the only way to successfully develop technologies and grow companies; you have to understand what you invest in to create value.
